Yoad David Luxembourg's project 'The Volution' (developed in 2006 during his MA studies at MAHKU,Utrecht) explores the immense and essential role of visual languages in design and fashion design. Through methodic research and an interdisciplinary approach to the subject of fashion it both tackles key arguments in the discussion of 'what is fashion?' and develops a new forms for fashion designing, whether as a study tool for existing collections or as module or method by which future collections can be designed.

Naturally, many fashion collections are series of numerous products, however, only few of them, if any, have been created according to this module, or presented as such. In fact in the fashion world the more commercial the brand is less relation we see within it creations.
This open up the path for 2 intertwine roads which crisscross each other's paths repeatedly:
The first, being the theoretical road, sets out to look for 'Volutions' in the fashion world. This search dives deeper and deeper into the meaning behind fashion and transforms itself into a debate over the quality of design in fashion and other creative fields. By focusing on questions like what is fashion? What is creation? And what is the difference between fashion design and styling? this research, titled 'Volution, Fashion & Semiotics', reveals the hidden mechanisms in fashion designing and in designing with fashion.
The second road, being the practical, explores the volution as a method for design and creation. It presents us with a conceptual fashion collection that while being inspired by the evolutionary theory and guided by post modern thinkers and theories, it also performs as a 'Volution, designed as a 'Volution' and presented as a 'Volution'. The conceptual fashion collection itself is a 'series of studies into the creation of the human form, where each outcome in the series is a logical research to its previous study'. It is a conceptual fashion collection that sets out to appeal to the mind in a time where most fashion collections appeal only to an aesthetic instinct.
The end result of the project is an interesting and enlightening road that sheds out a light and resurrects the forgotten mechanism, function and essence of fashion, design and fashion design.
